The traditional WEVZA Volleyball Coaching Seminar will return to Valladolid this coming June 2-4. This event is an essential date for Spanish coaches who eagerly awaited the return of this event, regarded as one of the best in the world in improving the skills of Volleyball coaches, following the break due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the novelty this year is that, simultaneously and at the very same venue, WEVZA will be delivering their first Volleyball Refereeing Seminar as well. This workshop aims to follow in the footsteps of the traditional coaching one and it is aimed specifically at referees.

The WEVZA Volleyball Coaching Seminar will feature an exceptional line-up of speakers, including Italian coaches Angelo Lorenzetti and Giulio Cesare Bregoli, Finnish expert Tapio Kangasniemi, and Miguel Rivera, the head coach of the Spanish men’s national team. The Congress will begin on the afternoon of Friday, June 2 and will extend until Sunday, June 4. All registered participants can submit written communications that will be presented on Sunday morning.

On the other hand, the inaugural WEVZA Volleyball Refereeing Seminar will be held simultaneously in Valladolid on June 2 and 3. The Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) had already announced its intention to hold such a clinic in 2019 and to organise it in 2020, but the pandemic prevented this project from seeing the light, despite contacts having already been established with speakers. The seminar aims to give referees the same opportunities that have been given to coaches so far. In this edition, the organisers hope to attract more than 100 attendees from all over Spain and members of the WEVZA Zonal Association, thus offering the best European refereeing forum that is not a traditional course.

Both events are organised by the RFEVB in collaboration with the General Directorate of Sports of the Junta de Castilla y León, the Volleyball Federation of Castilla y León, and the Spanish Olympic Committee, along with the Western European Volleyball Zonal Association (WEVZA).

The WEVZA Volleyball Refereeing Seminar is set to become one of the top training events exclusively focussing on refereeing and it will allow for interaction with some of the most relevant personalities in the world of refereeing, namely high-level speakers.

It will feature the presence of Scottish Alexander James Steel, who served as President of the FIVB Rules of the Game Commission for 15 years, plus the current chairman of the Referees Committee of the Polish Volleyball Federation, Wojciech Maroszek, and Avelino Azevedo. The Portuguese is a member of the European Refereeing Commission (ERC) and one of the leading officials responsible for refereeing in Beach Volleyball. In his extensive international career spanning decades, he has had the honour of refereeing the first Olympic match in Beach Volleyball contested at Atlanta back in 1996.

Those interested in attending either of these two seminars must register on the website https://voleibol.deporteenlanube.es/ and, if they require any further information, they can contact the Coaches  Department of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (formacion@rfevb.com or telephone +34 917014090).
