Sofia, Bulgaria, March 13, 2020. Legendary Volleyball player Lubomir Ganev has taken over the leadership of Bulgaria’s Volleyball family as the newly elected President of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation (BFV) following the General Assembly held in Sofia, attended by representatives from 83 of the 105 clubs affiliated to the Federation. Ganev received the absolute majority of the votes cast. Moreover, the delegates approved a change to the statutes of the Federation allowing the president to serve a maximum of two consecutive terms of office, each one lasting for four years.

Born in 1965 in the city of Ruse, the 210 cm tall Ganev rose to prominence while playing for CSKA SOFIA in his native Bulgaria, before spending most of his professional career in Italy during the 90s. Ganev is a member of the CEV Athletes’ Working Group since its establishment in 2017.

The General Assembly elected a new Board of Directors as well, consisting of 25 members. The first Vice President is Iliya Dinkov, who will be in charge of women’s Volleyball. Ivaylo Konstantinov will head the Finance Committee and David Davidov will be in charge of marketing.

At its first meeting, immediately after the General Assembly, the Board adopted a new structure for the Federation, before deciding to postpone to their next plenum the selection of a new coach for the men’s national team, as well as the appointment of coaches for the youth teams.
