As the academic year is approaching its end, Volleyball Ireland also begin to close off their events run in conjunction with the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’.

On May 5, Volleyball Ireland hosted the Schools Cup Finals. The event was open to all divisions and ages. As many as 66 teams registered for this year’s edition with tournaments for young boys and girls run at the same time.

This was followed up on May 8 with the Junior School Finals for players aged 12-14. These were the largest 6v6 school event of the year. A record 142 teams entered, and Volleyball Ireland crowned six champions across Girls A - D divisions and in the Boys Cup and Shield. There was a noticeable interest from new schools this year with 41% of all entries being new to the programme.

Unfortunately, the rescheduled Munster Beach Volleyball tournament was once again unable to be delivered due to inclement weather. As the schools are moving towards exams, it was decided to cancel and not postpone this time round.

The School Commission met on May 15 for their Annual General Meeting to review and look ahead to next year. A productive meeting has led to the creation of a new individual player membership system for 2024-25 in School Volleyball. The Commission would like to publicly thank the CEV for their ongoing support in aiding to develop School Volleyball in Ireland.

Volleyball Ireland sign off optimistic and feel ready to go for more action in 2023-2024!
